Our History

Old Colorado City is home to the original territory capital and steeped in history.
The 2400 block of West Colorado Avenue.

Old Colorado City

The 59er is smack dap in the middle of Old Colorado City and directly across the street from Bancroft Park where the original Territory of Colorado Capital Building is. There is so much to do along Colorado Avenue from eclectic shops, some of the best restaurants Colorado Springs has to offer, and home to several annual festivals.

The humble beginnings

The home of the 59er began as a feed store.  Later was the home of Old Town Bicycle Shop for several decades. And most recently was the home of The Holly Berry House, the brain child of the talented artist, Kathryn Read.

Old Town Bicycle Shop before it moved to the current Tejon location.

The dude of the house

Adam Stepan is originally from Austin Texas and relocated to Colorado Springs for access to better year around weather and less bugs.  His love/hate relationship with renovating historic buildings began when his Parents bought a home that was built in 1890 and turned it into a bed and breakfast.  Later on, he started Sunergy and Adam Stepan Design/Build where he advocated for clean energy and designed a huge number of restoration projects of historical homes in Austin, TX.

The Fifty-Niner is an amalgamation of Adam's bizarrely diverse career ranging from playing a card game professionally as a teen, to a decade working in the food and beverage industry, to running an e-commerce card game website.
